July 2011

  • JULY 1: Pre-Registration deadline for the "AMSA Pre-Medical and Pre-Public Health Conference".  Great opportunity for students interested in medical careers.  Register online: www.amsaarcucd.org
  • Seniors must have their official transcripts with final grades delivered to the universities that requested them.  Make your request to the school registrar in advance!
  • Last week of July: "Chicano/Latino Youth Leadership Project Conference" and the "African-American Leaders for Tomorrow Conference".  Apply in March to begin the extensive application process early! www.clylp.org and http://www.cce.csus.edu/conferences/AALTP/11/

August 2011

  • AUGUST 1: Early Registration deadline for the "AMSA Pre-Medical and Pre-Public Health Conference".  Great opportunity for students interested in medical careers.  Register online: www.amsaarcucd.org
  • AUGUST 12: Regular registration deadline for the September 10 ACT test.  Register online: www.actstudent.org
  • AUGUST 20 - SEPTEMBER 25: Kaplan SAT Preparation Program at Natomas Charter School (Great for 11th and 12th graders!).  Register early online: www.kaptest.com/college.  If you receive free or reduced lunch, talk to the academic counselor about applying for a Kaplan scholarship.
  • AUGUST 30: Registration opens for the "Expanding Your Horizons" conference for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls on Saturday, October 9th ($25).  The conference encourages girls to pursue education and careers in science, engineering, technology, and math.  http://www.cce.csus.edu/conferences/eyh/eyh10/index.htm

September 2011

  • SEPTEMBER 17 at 10am-12:30pm: Kaplan FREE Mock PSAT.  Highly recommended for 10th and 11th graders.  Takes place at Natomas Charter School Multipurpose Room.  Register with Ms. Ruedas in the Media Center.  Results seminar on SEPTEMBER 22 at 6-7pm in the Multipurpose Room.

  • SEPTEMBER 27: "Pathways to College" Information night for students and parents in the NCS Multipurpose Room from 6-8pm.  Learn about how to become a competitive college applicant and how to prepare early!
  • SEPTEMBER 30: Deadline for 11th and 12th grade students to apply for the US Senate Youth Program, in which student ambassadors attend a week-long leadership program in Washington DC! http://www.ussenateyouth.org/

October 2011

  • OCTOBER 5: Personal Statement Workshop with UC admissions expert Ed Aguilar from 8:00-9:30am in room G-4.  Register early with Ms. Ruedas in the Media Center.  Learn to craft your personal statement to impress college admissions committees for UC campuses and independent colleges.

  • OCTOBER 21: Deadline for students to apply for the Youth Entrepeneurs Academy.  This academy is seeking African-American Youth who are at least 16 years old and who want to develop their expertise with personal finances and explore the world of entrepeneurship.  This academy will take place once a month on Saturdays from November through June.  Apply by emailing Tanya Anderson at anderstt@scc.losrios.edu or Toni Newman at newmant@scc.losrios.edu.
